Granting Access

Even if parents, grandparents, guardians, spouses, or any others are the ones making payments, federal law restricts SPU from divulging any details to them — unless the student provides written permission. So if your student wants someone else involved, be sure he or she follows these steps:

  • Log onto banner. Note: Only students are allowed to log onto their Banner accounts — never anyone else.
  • Find “Student Menu,” then “Information Access Authorization (FERPA).” Select “Add New.”
  • Fill out all details for your selected person.
  • Complete all steps on the form, including security questions and answers. Be sure the authorized individual knows the answers to your security questions.

If the student does not complete all these steps, we cannot discuss account details, owing balance, or anything related to the student’s financial information with anyone other than the student.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) limits access to student information. Find out how it affects you and your financial (as well as academic) records.
